The college was founded by Ellen Spencer Mussey and Emma Gillett in 1896, the first law school to be founded by women, the first with a female dean, and the first to graduate an all-female class in America. The new and renovated buildings include teaching spaces, exquisite staircase made out of glass and limestone, conference facilities, teaching courtrooms, law library, alumni center, faculty and staff offices, and multiple student study/meeting spaces for its 1,700 students, 430 faculty, and staff. The new building, Yuma Building (left) houses the Commons Hall, teaching spaces, classrooms, faculty offices and a lounge, the clinic, subject-specific centers, student study spaces, dining facilities, and conference facility for its 1,700 students, 430 faculty, and staff. The four-story glass and brick building also houses a picturesque staircase, which can be viewed from The Pence Law Library in the Warren Building, directly in front of the Yuma Building. The Yuma Building connects to the original building Capital (between the Yuma and Warren building), housing the Capital Hall, the Chapel, and administrative offices. Construction began in June 2013, and the facility opened in January 2016.
